ITV is confident that it will be a welcome addition to their existing entertainment shows, with ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, Kevin Lygo saying: "ITV is and will always be the home of big entertainment shows, we’ve had over 10 million viewers tuning in to The Masked Singer, and over 8 million watching Saturday Night Takeaway when it returned last month." The new series has been compared to the iconic singing show Stars in their Eyes, which saw contestants impersonating famous singers. Matthew Kelly hosted the original competition, which ran between 1990 - 2006. Judges Sheridan Smith, Jason Manford, Beverley Knight and current Queen frontman Adam Lambert make up the panel that chooses their favorite team to perform again in a sing-off between all three members, voted on by the studio audience, the winner of which goes through to the final and a chance to win a £50,000 prize… Each week four teams made up of three ordinary members of the public get a superstar makeover and transform into their idols to perform as a group - this first week includes Team Freddie Mercury, Team Marvin Gaye, Team Lady Gaga and Team Ariana Grande. Language includes "badass," "dammit," "hell," "crap," "fricking," "balls," "poop," "stupid," "dang it," "shut up," and "oh my God." A running joke has people calling the main character "pig girl." The film could inspire interest in more of the Cinderella Story series, and characters talk about and use iPhones and social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.Starstruck is an eight-part talent show is pretty similar to Stars In Their Eyes but with a twist. There's some humor related to characters dressing in clothing typically associated with another gender, which feels outdated. Young adults kiss, and there are jokes involving having "balls" and a woman dressed as a man walking in on people in bathrooms. Expect a bit of innuendo in song lyrics, and there's one scene in which a woman hits on her step-sister (who's in costume) when she doesn't know who she is. There are also positive messages about being authentic and true to yourself, knowing and valuing your roots, and taking chances despite the risk of failure.
